Air Liquide will invest approximately 3,500 million rupees (40 million euros) in a new air separation unit (ASU) dedicated to Industrial Merchant in Kosi, in the State of Uttar Pradesh, in North India. This unit will have a production capacity of 350 tonnes per day, including a maximum of 300 tonnes of oxygen. Air Liquide India will build, own and operate this ASU, which is expected to be operational by the end of 2023.

This new plant will supply small and medium-sized customers in North India with liquid and bottled gases. It will enable Air Liquide to meet the growing demand for gas from the automotive, metal fabrication, heat treatment, photovoltaic and electronics industries, as well as local hospitals that need very high purity gas. When this unit is commissioned, the Air Liquide site located in Kosi, where it will be located, will become the largest liquid gas production site in the State of Uttar Pradesh.

In line with Air Liquide's Sustainable Development Goals, which notably aims for carbon neutrality by 2050, this ASU was designed to contribute to a successful energy transition in India. The new unit should be fully powered by renewable energy by 2030.

The new production unit is also part of Air Liquide's expansion strategy in India, where the Group has been present for more than 30 years. It already owns and operates four ASUs in North and West India and plans to finalize the construction of a fifth ASU in Nagpur (West India) this year. Air Liquide is committed to continuing to invest in the years to come to support India's development and its growing demand for environmentally friendly solutions.

Pascal Vinet, Director of the Company and member of the Executive Committee of the Air Liquide group supervising the Europe Industries and Africa / Middle East / India activities, declared :

“The construction of a new production unit in the state of Uttar Pradesh represents an important step for Air Liquide in India. This significant investment will give us the ability to better serve our customers, while allowing us to seize long-term growth opportunities in this key state. It also demonstrates our confidence in the continued growth prospects of Indian industry. This investment is in line with our Sustainable Development objectives since this new ASU will ultimately be powered exclusively by renewable energy.
