Inspiring to dream BIG

  • Local news

At Air Liquide India the journey is as inspiring as the destination itself. This is aptly demonstrated in the various initiatives that we undertake for Citizen@Work. One such initiative is the internship program where we partner with a few ‘not for profit’ organisations to provide opportunities to students from the marginalised section of the society. These young trainees are provided the opportunity to work on short term assignments and learn how to be part of a corporate team. In most cases these interns acquire valuable life skills preparing them for a competitive world. Today’s inspiring story is that of Deepak Kumar who interned with the Customer Services Department at our Delhi office.

Deepak comes from a very humble background in Delhi. He is currently undergoing his graduate studies and is also part of the NGO - Life Project 4 Youth (LP4Y). In November 2022, led by Kanchan BALA of PahAL which is one of the two teams driving the CSR activity in Air Liquide India, Deepak was on boarded for an internship program to work on a project with the customer service department.

As part of his project, Deepak was assigned by his mentor, Priyanka Yadav, tasks related to customer databases which are critical for order fulfilment. These databases consist of huge records and are critical for order placement and revenue collection. Most of the time, our CSD team were occupied with emails that they send regularly to the customers and indeed this activity consumes a lot of their time. As Deepak gained understanding of the work and started analyzing the workflow, he figured out that if we automate the activity to a certain degree, we can save a lot of time and in-turn use that to service our customers better. With this goal in mind he started working on finding an easy solution. He built a Google spreadsheet tool to automate calculations and effectively used the mail merge feature to share documents with customers. This not only helped drastically reduce the time spent on emails but also reduced manual errors to a large extent. This way our CSD executives were able to find more time to interact with our customers and enhanced customer satisfaction manifold. Motivated with this initial success, Deepak is now working on complex databases linking various spreadsheets formulae which is increasing the overall productivity of the team saving several manhours which is now utilised in more value added activities.

The short duration that Deepak has spent at Air Liquide India has taught him numerous valuable life skills. Today he is better organised with regard to time management. His exposure to working in collaboration with the team has made him learn the value of teamwork. He feels he is more confident today to face any challenging situation. And finally he has evolved into a responsible person with this experience and dreams to make it big one day. In his own words, Deepak says that when he joined the internship program at Air Liquide India, he was hesitant to communicate with colleagues but six months down the line he is a confident person which is demonstrated by the way he carries himself.

We are all praises for Deepak for his contribution to Air Liquide and we have no doubts that, in the years to come, he will be a successful person in whatever field he endeavours in. This is aptly endorsed by his Manager and project guide, Priyanka YADAV wherein she writes - “As an intern Deepak is always ready to take work challenges and fulfil his duties with full dedication. He created tools in google spreadsheet to help us to move forward to digitalization from manual work and reduce the repeated works. Thank you Deepak for your efforts and I wish you a bright future ahead”.
